AUSTIN (KXAN) - Freescale Semiconductor said it may cut twice as many Austin jobs as it originally predicted. The company said it will cut as many as 4,800 jobs as part of its restructuring, which is 20 percent of its worldwide workforce.
Freescale has already cut 228 jobs in Austin where it employs about 5,000 people. In November 2008, Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. said they would lay off 138 of their 5,000 workers in Travis and Williamson counties before the start of 2009. The news came on the heels of layoffs at other hich tech companies like Dell, AMD and Sun Microsystems.
