BURNET, Texas (KXAN) - The Texas Commission on Jail Standards is expected to issue the Burnet County jail a citation for failing to make hourly checks of inmates, a requirement under state law.

Nuana Antonio Fuentes-Sanchez, 23, escaped from the jail on Sunday night. He was being held in lieu of $200,000 bond in connection with a violent home invasion on April 14.

According to Adan Munoz, executive director of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, the agency sent an inspector out Wednesday morning to see if the jail violated any minimum standards that might have led to the jail break.

The inspector found one violation. The jail did not complete the required check of inmates every hour. Once the inmates came in from outdoor recreation between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., the next cell check was not done until 11 p.m. State law requires an hourly check.

The TCJS inspector met with the sheriff and the county judge to inform them of the violation this afternoon. The state will be writing up the violation and sending it to them by Friday. The county will have to create a plan of action to fix the problem and keep it from happening again.
