AUSTIN (KXAN) - Police on Monday identified the man who was found dead inside his car off Samsung Boulevard and Sprinkle Cutoff overnight as 34-year-old William Ervin.

They are still seeking the person who is responsible for the man's death.

Authorities learned of Ervin's death after someone noticed the car sitting off the roadway around 12:20 a.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they initially ruled it a traffic death. However, they changed the death to “suspicious” after noticing trauma to the body not consistent with a traffic accident.

The man was the only person in the car.

Homicide detectives are still at the scene looking for evidence and have even expanded their search area since the early morning hours Monday. They are combing through the grass and roadway edges in the area for any evidence.

Police said they learned about an incident that occurred in the 11200 block of Sprinkle Cutoff Road a few blocks from where Ervin's body was found around 11:25 p.m. on Sunday. A person reported being flagged down by a subject who displayed a firearm to the victim. The victim then fled the scene.

Their investigation lead officers to believe the two incidents are related.

Police said late Monday afternoon they are looking for a black man in his 20s or 30s. They described him as about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 and between 150 and 170 pounds. He had very short hair and was last seen wearing a red t-shirt with a graphic design and dark baggy shorts. He was reportedly driving a 1995 to 2000 model purple Honda Accord.

Austin police said Ervin was employed with the Department of Public Safety in their computer department.
