BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - Sunday was a day of celebration for a survivor of the Bastrop wildfires who claimed her new home.
Hillary Shepherd lost her Bastrop home in the Labor Day wildfire. On Sunday, she was given a key to her home, which was rebuilt by Mennonite Disaster Services .
The home was built with donations from the Bastrop Long-Term Recovery Team.
"I'm so thrilled," Shepherd said. "It's a beautiful home. The Mennonites did a wonderful job. I've got so much to be grateful for."
Shepherd's daughter Jessica is a singer-songwriter. She performed during the dedication ceremony.
Shepherd's home was among almost 1,700 homes that were destroyed in the Bastrop County fires. This week, the first home rebuilt inside the city limits will be dedicated.
