AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin Pets Alive! staff said they are seeing a lot of success at its new overflow location at the Town Lake Animal Center.
The non-profit organization moved into the city's old adoption center to help with its overflow. The group offered free adoptions this weekend, and staff said it really worked.
APA! has seen at least 35 adoptions since Friday: 25 dogs and eight cats. Officials said the move has been so succesful they are actually bringing more animals to the site.
"With all the adoptions we've had so far this weekend, we're going and pulling more animals at risk from the city shelter today," said Melissa Miller of APA!
APA! said it will have more adoption specials going into the holidays.
They also are looking for blanket donations at the Austin Town Lake Center.
