AUSTIN (KXAN) - As the team pads up for Saturday's last home game of the season, fans are pulling out all the stops for their Longhorns. Several tailgaters are ready to spend their last dime to show their Longhorns love.
"We're very excited and very proud of our school," said Peter Vincent, UT tailgater.
Burnt orange rules the stadium and parking lots around the UT campus, but the cost to cheer on the Longhorns can be pretty high.
"I give a large amount of my paycheck to All About Texas," said Steven Kalil, UT Tailgater. "That's our tailgating crew."
Fans like Kalil spend a couple hundred dollars a game. But they say it is all worth it.
"It's a way to keep our friendships alive after college," said Kalil.
Peter Vincent is a recent UT grad. He works hard to make ends meet, but he knows his priorities.
"We make a real effort to show our pride and support the Longhorns," said Vincent. "I think just being out of college, you have to think wisely about how you spend your money. It's definitely an issue."
Others like Zack Shelley are keeping quiet about how much his Longhorn love actually costs him.
"My wife may be in the hotel watching it," said Shelley. "I can't tell how much I tailgate. Let's just say I have some wonderful sponsors, and I spend very little out of my own pocket."
It may be the last time this parking lot will be full of tailgaters at least for this season, but you can bet these fans will be out here again, cheering on their team in true Texas-style.
"And when we go to the National Championship, we're all going to
meet out there too!" said Shelley.
