ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) - In schools across America, students were able to watch the inauguration in their classrooms. Thanks to streaming video and new technology like a Promethean board, fifth grade students at Caldwell Heights Elementary were able to feel like they were in Washington D.C.

Teacher Valerie Tidwell told her fifth grade Round Rock students, "I truly believe that 40 years from now, you will tell people about this moment in time. You will remember sitting here watching this the rest of your life."

The fifth graders knew it was a big day.

Ben Njoku said, "Barack Obama is the first black president and its the proudest moment of my life."

Harley Sulak said, "Its important, because he's the first African American president."

Morgan Kile said, "I thought it was a kind of special moment in time."

With coverage streaming into their class, they could pray, clap, stand, ask questions and feel like they were there.

Now that the Obama girls will be living at the White House, many of the fifth graders could not help but wonder what their life will be like. Like Malia Obama, many of the students are the same age.

Daisha Johnson said, "They're excited because they get to play around in the White House and get to play hide and go seek. It would be hard to find each other."

Watching the ceremony also helped create dreams.

"If I get my grades up, I can be the second Barack Obama," Njoku said.

Ms. Tidwell hoped Tuesday's history lesson would be inspiring.

"I'm hoping that when they're 18 and when they're able to vote for real that they'll be excited about that and ready to go out and say 'woo hoo' I can be a part of this now!," Tidwell said.
