AUSTIN, TEXAS (KXAN) - The new BCS standings come out on Sunday and many Texas fans are watching closely, as it could decide the Longhorn's fate. The Longhorns did not play Saturday, but UT fans have been glued to their TV sets watching a series of football games. That's because nobody knows yet if UT's 49-9 win over Texas A&M will be enough to put the Horns in the Big 12 Championship.
Texas Tech beat out Baylor on Saturday, crushing the Horns' chances on advancing immediately. That caused a big draw to local sports bars as Texas fans kept a close eye on the Oklahoma/ Oklahoma State game, hoping the outcome would give UT a title shot. "Saturdays are usually really, really busy for us," said Michael Tashnick, owner of Third Base Bar and Grill. "Today's a little different. Texas isn't playing, but with the BCS ranking, it's crazy."
Oklahoma's 61-41 win over Oklahoma State means a three-way tie between Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. KXAN asked fans last night how it felt to cheer for rival, Oklahoma. "It's very odd," said Alison Giese, a UT fan. "We had to do it last week too, so they could beat Texas Tech. So, it's odd cheering for them, but as long as they can get us the championship. It's fine with me."
Still, there were a few Texas Tech fans at Third Base on Saturday, hoping for an Oklahoma State win. "I'm hoping that Oklahoma State will kill Oklahoma," said Colleen Peterson. "Wherever Texas goes, I think we had a great season," said Salvador Enriquez, a UT fan. "Mack Brown has done an incredible job."
