AUSTIN (KXAN) - A local inventor is making a splash on the national stage after her invention is featured on the Today Show .
"My product is called On the Cuff,” said On the Cuff inventor Rana Bauer. “It's an item that stops water from running down your arms."
It is a stretchy, sponge-like material that reflects water off the arms.
"Every time I would go to wash my face, I would have water running down my arm," said Bauer. "So before you know it, there is water all over the floor."
Upset that she couldn't find a product to stop the water flow, she came up with her own solution. However, she had to get her husband to buy into the idea - since he was out of work.
"It was a shock, in a sense, when I first heard it,” said Jim Staude, Bauer’s husband. “I was like, 'Wow, where are we going to come up with the funds to fund this new company?' She said, 'Well, maybe we could invest some of our savings.' I was like taken aback a little bit."
Staude took a chance investing the savings and helped his wife come up with the idea. Then, they got a call that changed the game.
"When I was contacted by the Today Show,” said Bauer. “Here I was. I was in business less than four months, and it was already getting national attention."
On the Cuff is inexpensive, at $7.99 for a single pack and just under $25 for the four-pack. In just eight months, the company has sold more than $30,000-worth.
Bauer said this is only the beginning because inventing is in her blood. On the Cuff is her first invention, but she is already working on improvements to this invention and working on the next big thing.
