MARBLE FALLS (KXAN) - The Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls braced themselves for the
Thanksgiving rush Thursday. Owner John Kemper said his restaurant
does the most business this time of year. Cooks prepared 2000 pies
to handle customers picking them up and dining in.
"I think it just has a very homemade taste at a restaurant,"
said customer Jane Courtney. She and her husband drove down from
Pflugerville. They had their coconut meringue pie boxed up before
they took one bite of the traditional turkey and dressing they
ordered. "It looks like they just pulled it out of the oven," said
Courtney.
By noon, the line of customers waiting for a table stretched
into the parking lot. The restaurant has built up a booming
business since they opening in 1929.
"You have to have good food to be in business this long,"
said Richard Jones. The last time Jones dropped by he was on date
in 1957. He was stationed at Ft. Hood with Elvis Presley. "You
know, I don't remember that much," said Jones. "I was concentrating
on my future wife."
Jones now lives in St. Louis. This was his first Thanksgiving
without his wife who recently passed away. He felt proud to share
pie with his grandchildren more than 50 years later at the same
restaurant where sparks flew with their grandmother.
