(NBC) - There haven't been too many "delayed" or "canceled" notices on arrival boards in airports lately.

Airlines have been cutting many flights, due to fuel costs and the economy, and as a result, have been managing their remaing flights better.

The Department of Transportation announced today more than 80 percent of flights in May were on time. That is the seventh best May on record.

Of the 31 busiest airports, Salt Lake City was the best for on-time arrivals in May, while New York's LaGuardia was the worst.

Along with the on-time flight progression, the Department of Transportation also said that fewer flights were canceled. Passengers also reported less cases of mismanaged baggage.
