WIMBERLEY, Texas (KXAN) - Two dogs that killed a dozen chickens will be euthanized in Hays County.

According to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office , on the evening of February 9, two dogs, a yellow lab mix and a black Labrador retriever managed to get into a chicken coop in the 500 block of Wimberley Oaks Drive in Wimberley and killed 12 chickens.

Due to past incidents, the homeowner installed a game camera that managed to capture the chicken attack on camera.

The homeowner told authorities that he shot and injured the black Labrador.

Later that evening, the same two dogs attempted to re-enter the chicken coop, but the homeowner said he saw them and scared them off.

Animal Control Officers found the injured dog the next day and took it to the San Marcos Animal Shelter.

The yellow dog was located on Monday.

Hays County Sheriff’s Office said both dogs belonged to Scott Pate. According to the press release from the Sheriff's Office, Pate released custody of the animals to authorities.

It is unclear if the dogs were running loose or had gotten out of a fenced yard.

According to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, Texas state law requires that any animal that kills livestock shall be humanely euthanized.

Both animals were scheduled to be euthanized on Tuesday afternoon.

KXAN News has reached out to the Pate family to get their response but has not heard back from them.
