GILLESPIE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - One woman is dead and four others were injured in a house fire in Gillespie County.

Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, police and sheriff deputies were called to a home located in the 3100 block of US Highway 87 on an explosion.  When authorities arrived, they found a home fully engulfed in flames.  Witnesses on the scene were screaming that there were people inside the house.

Fire officials made several attempts to rescue the trapped occupants, but the flames proved too much.  Once the fire was knocked down, firefighters found the body of Joan Knorr.  They also located Sherill Foster, who had crawled to safety. She was treated on the scene by EMS.

Also injured, were Deborah Foster, Jordan Foster and Joshua Foster.  They were all taken to Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

The Texas State Fire Marshal's office has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire and the explosion.
