LEE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Rescue crews in Lee County have managed to get all of the stranded oil rig workers to dry land.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, 14 oil rig workers were stuck on a platform off FM 1624 -- three miles west of Lexington, near Yegua Creek.
The workers called 911 around 7:30 p.m. to report the water from the creek had risen to knee-deep level and that they couldn't get off their platform.
The workers' cars were also stuck in water.
While the water did not reach the platform, the workers were stranded due to all the water. Still, the workers were not in immediate danger.
STARFlight sent two helicopters two help with the rescue, and the pilots hoisted workers off the platform two at a time.
Crews hit a snag when they found there were no boats close enough to get to the workers in a timely manner. The Austin Fire Department later came through with a boat team to help.
By 10 p.m., STARFlight had gotten four workers off the platform, and there were six workers left stranded by 10:30 p.m. The six were off the rig by Thursday morning.
