Austin (KXAN) - A large water main is leaking after an accident in southwest Austin.
Water is gushing into the street on Walsh Tarlton Lane, a few blocks from Barton Creek Square Mall.
The Austin Water Utility says a contractor accidentally drilled a four inch hole in a 54 inch water main at 2101 Walsh Tarlton Lane.
The city is losing quite a bit of water because of the leak, but the water utility doesn't want to shut off service, since this pipeline supplies several neighborhoods in south and southwest Austin.
A spokesman for the water utility says no homes are without water because of the leak.
Water utility crews will evaluate how to fix the leak, but despite the water loss there is no time frame yet for a repair.
The water utility spokesman could not provide an amount of how much water is being lost by the leak.
