STILLWATER (KXAN) - The Texas Longhorns bucked the trend of comeback wins against Oklahoma State. They led the entire way and jump to No. 2 in the BCS Standings with a 41-14 victory in Stillwater on Halloween night.
The Longhorns defense stole the show with two touchdowns in the game. Junior cornerback Curtis Brown intercepted Cowboys' quarterback Zac Robinson in the 2nd quarter and returned it 77-yards for the score. Sophomore safety Earl Thomas added a 31-yard pick six to put the game out of reach in the 3rd quarter. It was Thomas' second of the season.
The 4th quarter was not a factor. Longhorns' freshman Garrett Gilbert finished out the game at quarterback for senior Colt McCoy. McCoy was 16-of-21 passing for 171 yards and touchdown. He found sophomore receiver Malcolm Williams in the back of the endzone to take a 24-7 lead into halftime.
Sophomore running back Cody Johnson added two touchdowns from short yardage.
Texas improves to 8-0 on the season and takes the outright lead in the Big-12 South Division. McCoy moves into second-place on the NCAA's alltime wins list with his 40th. Georgia's David Greene holds the career record with 42 wins as a starting quarterback.
Texas steps out of conference play next week to host Central Florida Saturday, Nov. 7. Kickoff is set for 11am CST.
