WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - A small, single-engine plane made an emergency landing on southbound SH 130 in Williamson County just south of the State Highway 79 intersection Tuesday morning.
"A lieutenant with Travis County was out with them in an unmarked car," said Lt. Dwain Jones, with Hutto Police Department. "Apparently the plane flew over the top of his car and landed in front of him."
A passerby also saw the plane that took off from Taylor and called the Texas Department of Public Safety at 8:37 a.m. Tuesday to report the incident.
"I didn't hear the part about Cessna, so my mind immediately went into worse case scenario mode," said Lt. Jones. "I'm think 737 or 57. They can land on it but their wing tips were going to clip every sign going down the highway and it's going to be a mess."
When Hutto police, along with emergency and fire crews arrived they found one person was aboard the Cessna fixed-wing aircraft. 24-year-old pilot Lindsey Moreland, from Austin had apparently ran out of fuel.
"The pilot she landed down the middle of the road and then she pulled it over to the side so traffic can get by," said Lt. Jones.
After unexpected thunderstorms hampered their efforts to tow the plane off the roadway at 10 a.m. Tuesday, DPS officials said they moved the plane off of SH 130. Officials are breaking the plane down to put on a wrecker and tow it to its destination, the Georgetown Airport.
After obstructing traffic Tuesday morning, the intersection at State Highway 79 and SH 130 within an hour of the plane's emergency landing.
