AUSTIN (KXAN/AP) - A man accused of killing a woman and her 15-month-old son was arrested in Austin over the weekend. Luis Antonio Aguirre, 22, was still in the Travis County Jail Monday afternoon after being arrested by Riley County, Kansas deputies Friday night. His bond is set at $2.5 million.
Officials in Kansas said the bodies of Tanya Maldonado, 18, and her child, Juan, were found in a shallow grave northwest of Manhattan, Kansas last week. Both were from the Chicago area, but had been in the Riley County, Kansas area since September.
Aguirre is from Austin, according to authorities, but lived in Ogden, Kansas for about a year.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Maldonado had a relationship with Aguirre, who apparently fled to Texas after the deaths.
Aguirre is charged with murder in connection with the deaths.
A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Austin to extradite Aguirre to Kansas.
The Austin Police Department is referring all questions regarding this arrest to Riley County, KS authorities.
