OMAHA, Neb. (KXAN) - LSU's offense ran through a handful of Texas pitchers on their way to the 2009 baseball national title Wednesday night.
The Tigers beat the Longhorns 11-4 in Game-3 of the College World Series finals at Rosenblatt Stadium. LSU tied Texas with its sixth baseball championship.
UT tied the game 4-4 with a Kevin Keyes two-run homer in the 5th inning. LSU responded with seven unanswered runs.
Freshman Mikie Mahtook doubled off sophomore Brandon Workman to score the go-ahead run in the 6th. Senior Austin Wood, the Longhorns third pitcher of the inning, hit Blake Dean to walk in another run with the bases loaded. It was part of a five-run rally to break it open for the Tigers.
Junior Sean Ochinko added an exclamation in the top of the ninth with a solo homerun to leftfield off senior Keith Shinaberry.
Texas starting pitcher Cole Green allowed four runs on five hits in two innings. LSU finished with twelve hits.
