WACO (KXAN) - Senior quarterback Colt McCoy has tied the NCAA alltime record for wins. The No. 2 Texas Longhorns blew by Baylor 47-14 Saturday at Floyd Casey Stadium.
The Longhorns didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard. They marched downfield on their opening drive, and McCoy hit senior receiver Jordan Shipley on a quick 3-yard pass play for the first touchdown. McCoy finished 23-of-34 passing for 181 yards and two touchdowns, both to Shipley.
The Longhorns also found their running game again. Sophomore Cody Johnson got the start and led the team with 109 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman Tre Newton scored from 45 yards out and accounted for 80 of the team's 224 total rushing yards.
Texas added two non-offensive scores. Junior defensive end Sam Acho forced a Baylor fumble in the 2nd quarter leading to a safety, and junior defensive end Eddie Jones returned an interception for a touchdown in the 4th quarter.
The defense had a shutout until 5:18 remaining in the game when Terrance Ganaway scored from a yard out.
The Longhorns improved to 10-0 this season. It's their 9th straight 10-win season. McCoy now has 42 career wins, tied with Georgia's David Greene on the NCAA's alltime list. He can break the record at home against Kansas on Saturday, Nov. 21.
