AUSTIN - The Giddings baseball team advanced to their first 3A state championship game Thursday. They didn't learn their opponent until the Friday morning of the game.
The Carthage Bulldogs played 2 1/3 innings of their semi-final against Andrews on Thursday night at UFCU Disch Falk Field when a thunderstorm delayed the game until the following morning.
Carthage won the game 4-3 to advance to the afternoon finals against Giddings.
Giddings was down 1-0 in the 4th inning when Zach Berry gounded to third and Trey Masic beat a throw home to tie it.
Carthage responded with four runs on two outs in the 5th to take the lead for good. They win the 3A title 5-2.
