AUSTIN (KXAN) - In what police are calling Austin's sixth homicide of the year, officials identified a body found over the weekend as Bianca Maldonado, 17.

The LBJ High School student was found dead inside the East Austin apartment complex located at 7000 Decker Lane. She lived there with her mother, sister and son.

Austin police initially responded to assist an EMS call at Huntington Meadows apartment complex Sunday morning, but they found much more. Maldanado's mother arrived home around 6:52a.m. and police say called 911, after discovering her daughter's body.

"Ms. Maldanado suffered traumatic injury to her body," said Detective Joseph Chacon, with the Austin Police Department. "Right now I don't want to talk about how she was killed, but this was clearly a murder."

There was no forced entry, so police fear she may have known her attacker. Maldonado's son was in the apartment at the time of the attack.

"There was a one year old child that was injured," said Detective Chacon. "The child did not suffer life threatening injuries, but was transported to the hospital and is stable."

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what led to the teen's death.

Meanwhile, residents in the apartment complex said they hear about a lot of robberies and were not surprised to see police in the area.

Police claim they have people of interest they are investigating.
