Cold weather affecting schools and businesses

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Subzero wind-chill factors and power outages have prompted some schools and businesses to close or delay opening. This list will be updated continually as information is received. As sleet and ice descended on Central Texas, districts, businesses and local government announced closures.

  • ABC Child Development Center in Round Rock will be delayed two hours.
  • Academy of Health Care Professionals -- closed on Friday.
  • All About Me Academy I and II in Bastrop -- closed on Friday. This is formally known as Kidz's Kountry.

  • Austin Parks and Recreation Department Golf Courses closed at 1 p.m. Tuesday. They will re-open when air temperatures return to a safe and consistent temperature above freezing. Offices remain open during normal hours. Call 512-974-9350 for more information.
  • Austin Parks and Recreation has also closed Deep Eddy Pool, Stacy Pool, Balcones Pool and Dick Nichols Park for Wednesday until the temperature rises above 32 degrees. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 512-974-9332 for more information.
  • Austin Travis County Integral Care -- closed on Friday.
  • Austin Workforce Career Centers -- closed Friday.
  • Bastrop County offices delay opening Friday by two hours.
  • Blanton Museum of Art -- closed on Friday.
  • Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum -- closed on Friday.
  • Brushy Creek MUD -- opening at 10 a.m. Friday.
  • Camp Mabry -- closed on Friday.
  • Capital Area Rural Transportation (CARTS) bus service will be delayed Friday morning. Service will resume at 10 a.m. Friday.
  • Capital Bingo -- closed on Friday.
  • Capital Metro -- will operate on a Sunday level of service Friday, but it will end service early. Customers should be on the bus by 7 p.m. in order to catch the las trips of the day. Prior to 7 p.m., we will continue to opperate Sunday schedules. There will be no UT shuttles, MetroExpress and no MetroRail.
  • Central Texas RediClinics -- delayed start at 10 a.m. Friday.
  • City of Austin -- all nonessential personnel need not report Friday.
  • City of Pflugerville -- closed on Friday.

  • Department of Information Resources -- delayed start at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Employees are strongly encouraged to use their best judgment when/if they report to work.
  • DPS offices in Central Texas -- closed on Friday.
  • Dresser Wayne -- closed on Friday.
  • Extend-A-Care for Kids After-School and All-Day Child Care Programs -- closed Friday.
  • First Baptist Church in Downtown Austin at Ninth and Trinity streets is canceling all regularly scheduled Wednesday night activities. There will be no midweek moorings, dinner, choir rehearsal or handbells rehearsal.
  • First United Methodist Church in Georgetown will not be hosting night-time activites, including Wednesday Night Live.
  • Harbor Leadership Academy will be closed Friday
  • Hays County Government Offices will be closed on Friday, due to hazardous driving conditions.
  • Hill Country Pediatrics -- closed on Friday.
  • Manchaca United Methodist Church Child Development Center -- closed on Friday. 
  • Meals on Wheels will not deliver on Friday, but clients have been provided an extra emergency meal last week. No volunteers will be needed to come in to volunteer on Friday.
  • Office of the Attorney General -- closed on Friday.
  • Round Rock Cardiology -- closed on Friday.
  • Seton Heart Institute Clinics -- closed on Friday.
  • Social Security Administration -- will open at noon Friday.
  • Teacher Retirement System of Texas -- closed Friday.
  • Texas Comptroller Public Accounts -- closed Friday.
  • Texas Department of Agriculture -- closed on Friday.
  • Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs -- closed on Friday.
  • Texas Department of Motor Vehicle -- to open at noon Friday.
  • Texas Lottery Commission headquarters -- will be closed on Friday.
  • Texas Parks and Wildlife Austin headquarters and other facilities -- closed on Friday.
  • Texas State Library and Archives Commission -- offices closed Friday. This includes the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building.

  • Evening classes are cancelled at Lampasas County Higher Education Center on Wednesday.
  • Travis County Offices -- closed on Friday.
  • Urology Team -- all three clinics open at 1 p.m. Friday.

  • YMCA of Greater Williamson County -- all locations will open at 10 a.m.

  • Funeral for Joseph Kirk -- delayed until 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Newman Church on Bee Cave Road.
  • The meeting of the Railroad Commission of Texas has been delayed to 10 a.m. on Friday.
  • The State Board of Educator Certification has canceled its Friday meeting.
