Prominent attorney Mina Brees dies

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Mina Brees, prominent Austin attorney and former president of the Austin Bar Association, has died at the age of 59.

Brees passed away at a friend's home in Colorado, but the cause of her death has not been released at this time.

Brees is the mother of New Orleans Saint’s quarterback Drew Brees. The two had a falling out during her 2006 campaign for the state’s 3rd Court of Appeals when he asked his mother to stop using his football career in commercials. Mina was defeated by Republican David Puryear with 48% of the vote.

The experianced attorney also devoted her time to volunteering. She specifically helped victim's of abuse through the SafePlace organization.

Brees was also recently subpoenaed by the Texas Attorney General's office regarding recent business actions.
