AUSTIN(KXAN) - Aaron Peirsol has achieved just about everything possible in swimming.

The 25-year-old owns five Olympic gold medals and one silver medal. He has not lost in the 100 backstroke since 2002. Peirsol figures that with all that he has accomplished, the pressure is off, even with a six year winning streak in his specialty.

"I've gone this far with that streak in the 100 back its somewhat of a blessing," said Peirsol on Tuesday. "If I were 15 I would have said it would have been the 200 [back], now that I'm 25 its the 100 which is so funny for me anyway. It's very cool when it comes to something like our trials this summer, the field is so deep and so many races that no ones really safe, you have to be on your game to just to be able to make the team."

The U.S. nationals begin July 7 in Indianapolis, Ind. Peirsol will put that 100 back win streak on the line. He will also compete in the 200 back where he won silver in Beijing after winning the gold in 2004.  But instead of swimming on his back the entire meet, he plans to swim the 200 butterfly as well.  The top two finishers in each event represent the U.S. at the World Championships in Rome, Italy later in July.
