AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas Tea Party members protested the arrival on Saturday of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, in Austin Saturday afternoon. Pelosi was in town to help raise money for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and attend Saturday night's UT football game against Texas Tech.
The fundraiser was a private event at the West Austin home of former Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes. The cost is $1,000 to attend and couples can pay up to $30,400 to enjoy the party. There will be no media availability.
A Texas Tea Party protest will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m at Pease Park. In their press release, the group called Pelosi "the poster child for all that has gone wrong in Washington."
After the fundraiser, Pelosi will attend the UT/Texas Tech game with Barnes.
This comes as President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton embark on a media blitz to push the health care reform package. Obama has Sunday appearances on all the major networks on Sunday in an effort to get a health care bill across the finish line.
