Austin (KXAN) - Austin Police arrested a man accused of hitting a cyclist, then driving away, leaving the injured man laying in the road.
According to the warrant, Gregory Victor Feazell, 26, was driving a PT Cruiser that hit a cyclist near the HEB at 6900 Brodie Lane. It happened just after 7:30 on Tuesday, July 21.
Sara Kamp was driving behind Feazell. Kamp told police that she saw the cyclist "flying through the air" after the impact.
Kamp said that Feazell stopped, got out of his car, and spoke to the cyclist. Then he got back in and drove into an apartment complex at 6607 Brodie Lane.
The victim, Ross Clurman, told police that he was riding on the far right of the road when the car hit him. Clurman said that Feazell got out and asked if he was alright. Clurman responded, "What do you think?" He said that he did not see Feazell after that.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the license plate of the PT Cruiser on the road, apparently knocked off upon impact. Officers went to the apartment complex, and saw the car and Feazell nearby.
One officer stopped Feazell and asked him if he was the driver of the car that hit the cyclist. Feazell said he was. The officer asked him why he left the scene. Feazell said he had to go tell his mother what happened.
According to the affidavit, Feazell told the officer that his cell phone was not working, and said he did not call 9-1-1 because he saw others calling.
Clurman was taken to Brackenridge Hospital complaining of neck and back pain. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Feazell is charged with failure to stop and render aid. That's a third degree felony.
