AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Independence Day crowd began showing up to Auditorium shores early Saturday afternoon.

An estimated 4,000 people were in the area by 4 p.m., with 80,000 to 100,000 expected by 8:30 p.m., according to organizers, which is when the Independence Day celebration officially began.

Only one person was treated for a heat related injury, according to EMT officials.

Eight paramedics were on hand throughout the evening to make sure people remained safe.

"The most important thing you can do is drink lots and lots of water stay away form sodas and alcohol beverages," said EMT Lizzie Yankiver.

Adrian Wright brought his family to the park so that his three girls could see the fireworks. They spent the day in the shade to stay cool. "[We're] staying in the shade and drinking lots of water," he said.

Officials opened up the First Street bridge to pedestrian traffic for the event.

The fireworks display lasted for about 30 minutes.
