MARBLE FALLS, Texas (KXAN) - Despite our recent rains, citizens are still very concerned about the drought in Burnet County. Officials there spoke Friday morning about future water usage to a group at the Marble Falls Public Library.

About 60 people showed up to learn. The Lower Colorado River Authority has given notice to the county about possibly suspending new water contracts. All existing contracts would still be honored, but county officials suspect there will be additional conservation measures put in place.

LCRA has told Burnet County these moves would help bring the water levels back up in the lakes and assure long-term water availability. So far, this is just a proposal.

"If you walk out into Lake Buchanan," said Donna Klaeger, Burnet County judge, " you can see there's only so much water. It's a concern for us in Burnet County."

This water group usually meets once every two months. Because of the amount of recent concerns during the drought, county officials are considering increasing the meeting frequency.
