CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - A post office in Cedar Park was dedicated Friday in memory of local soldier who was killed in Iraq when his vehicle hit a makeshift bomb.

The facility at 500 E. Whitestone Blvd. was named for Army Spc. Troy Morris during a ceremony attended by U.S. Rep. John Carter and local officials.

Morris, 23, of Cedar Park, was killed April 6, 2008, by a roadside bomb. He enlisted in the Army in 2005. Before that, he attended the Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Va., where he earned an ROTC leadership award.

According to an Associated Press report shortly after his death, Morris met a history teacher at the school who inspired him to want to become an educator.

“After his service, he wanted to go back to school and get a four-year degree to become a teacher,” said his mother, Lisa. “He wanted to make a difference and give back to the community.”

Morris earned the Bronze Star, Purple Hart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army  Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Combat Action Ribbon.
