AUSTIN (KXAN) - Any organizations that help military veterans, heres your chance to get a piece of $2.5 million. The money is available through legislation allowing the Texas Lottery to launch a game called "Veterans Cash."

Every time someone buys one of the scratch-off game, part of the proceeds goes to the Texas Veterans Assistance Program.

Twice a year they take all the money earned from the lottery scratch off and gives it to non-profit groups that help veterans in Texas.

The catch is, the organizations only have a three-week period to apply for the money. Groups can be awarded anywhere from $5,000 to $500,000.

"Through this fund,  we have been able to serve through these organizations 92,000 veterans since the program began in 2009," said Sarah Tillman of the Texas Veterans Commission.

The deadline to apply is Aug. 7, you can apply by clicking Veterans Cash .
