FOB SPIN BOLDAK, Afghanistan (KXAN) - Two Central Texas soldiers have a new honor: the Purple Heart.
Staff Sgt. Thomas C. Stephenson, of Cross Plaines, Texas, and Staff Sgt. Michael A. Dubois, of Gaithersburg, Md., were awarded the Purple Heart on Jan. 10.
Both are with the 2nd Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade.
Dubois was hurt during combat operations in Kandahar province in July 2011 when an improvised explosive struck the vehicle he was riding in.
A fellow soldier was actually killed in the attack.
Stephenson was hurt in a similar attack in August 2011.
