AFGHANISTAN (KXAN) - U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Jennifer Elder is now fighting for her country.

Born in Portsmouth, England, Elder immigrated with her family in 1998 at the age of 6.

"My dad's work was transferred to Texas, and my mom became a police officer there," said Elder.

A native of Rockwall, Elder was naturalized at a ceremony at Khandahar Airfield in Afghanistan on Feb. 10.

Elder serves as a logistics vehicle systems operator with Marine Wing Support Squadron 371.

"When I was little, I used to see Marines all the time traveling between embassies," said Elder. "And while growing up, when I saw the 9/11 attacks, I decided to join."

"It feels right to fight for America," said Elder. "I've never thought of it as an adopted nation; I've always thought of it as my home."
