Army reservist awarded Purple Heart

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A Travis County employee was honored this holiday season with a Purple Heart.

In December, Army Reserves Col. Leroy Ontiberos was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received while serving in Balad, Iraq.

Ontiberos served four tours of duty in Iraq.

In addition he also received the Meritious Service medal and the Legion of Merit his for more than 36 years in service to the army.

As part of the U.S. Army Reserves, Ontiberos works at the Travis County Commissioners Court.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve also gave the Patriotic Employer Certificate to the court for supporting Ontiberos' service in the Army Reserves.
