WASHINGTON (AP) - The Army reportedly will do an internal review on whether it missed warning signs about an officer accused of fatally shooting 13 people at Fort Hood.

The Nov. 5 shooting spree blamed on Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who also was wounded, left 29 people hurt.

The Wall Street Journal reports the probe will focus on Hasan's six years at Washington's Walter Reed Medical Center.

The Washington Post reports the Army's chief of staff, Gen. George W. Casey Jr., is forming an investigative panel to look at the psychiatrist's entire career.

The FBI learned late last year of Hasan's repeated contact with a radical Muslim cleric in Yemen.

An official, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity, said a top priority will likely be reviewing any red flags that were missed in Hasan's case, with the aim of making sure there are no other similar cases about to occur.

Officials will be guarding against interfering with an ongoing criminal investigation into the shootings.

President Barack Obama already has ordered a review of all intelligence related to Hasan.

The U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Thursday will hold a public hearing about the massacre.
