Ft. Hood suspect conscious and talking

SAN ANTONIO (CNN) - Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is conscious and talking, according to Dewey Mitchell, public affairs chief at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Hasan's ventilator was removed throughout the weekend.

Mitchell did not know when Hasan began talking but said he has been conversant with medical staff.

Mitchell was unable to say whether Hasan has been speaking with Army investigators, adding even if he did know, that information would have to come from Army CID.

Mitchell said he is not aware of any plans to move Hasan anytime soon.
