Mom of wounded soldier wants revenge

Son was shot protecting his comrades

KILLEEN, Texas (KXAN) - Janice Armstrong will never forget the phone call she received on Nov. 5.

"She said, 'Your son has been shot, but he's OK,'" said Armstrong. "I had to stop on the side of the road, kind of pull yourself together, you know? You know, you don't hear that! You don't hear, 'He's OK.' You hear, 'He got shot.'"

Pfc. James Armstrong was shot twice while trying to protect his comrades. His mom said he put his friends behind him and acted as a shield. Though he was shot twice, he survived and is already out of the hospital - a blessing his mother does not take for granted.

"At the memorial service, I think that's where it really hit me the hardest because we were sitting here and the families of the dead were sitting here," said Armstrong, demonstrating how close they were. "We were only four feet away."

As Armstrong mourns for those lost and takes care of her own who survived, she now wants justice and punishment for the man who caused this unnecessary tragedy.

"We've got to move on, it's time," she said. "It happened, it's gone. Time to get mad and get even."
