AUSTIN (KXAN) - A short memorial service was held on Huston-Tillotson University's campus to remember the victims of Thursday's Fort Hood shooting tragedy.
Students were upset by the tragedy, especially since a large number of them are from the Fort Hood and Killeen area. Around 40 students and 15 university officials gathered to hold hands and light candles.
Thirteen people were killed and 30 others were wounded, after Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the suspected shooter, opened fire at a military processing center at Fort Hood.
Hasan's ramapage ended when civilian police officer Kimberly Munley, shot him four times, wounding him. She was also hit during the exchange.
University officials reminded students of the importance of peace and tolerance, here and abroad. Students even tied yellow ribbons on trees around campus.
