AUSTIN (KXAN) - In Austin, our hair takes a beating from the long summer months.

From the swimming pool, to the lake, to the sun, hair gets limp and loses moisture. There are a few ways to revitalize your hair, however.

Ask your stylist for a gloss. You can even add a touch of color to the gloss to spice up the ends of your hair.
Shampoo less. Wash hair with shampoo one- to two times a week. This locks in your natural oils and keeps your scalp healthy.

At home, apply an avocado hair mask.

You'll need:

  • 1 medium-sized avocado, mashed with a fork
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (full fat)
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • Coconut oil or coconut milk

  1. Mash the avocado with a fork into a bowl. Then add mayonnaise, coconut milk or oil and honey into the mixture. Blend it up!
  2. Damp the hair with water. Your hair should be unwashed. Massage mixture into the hair from root to ends generously. Place a plastic shower cap over hair for about 20- to 30 minutes to allow the hair to absorb the nutrients. Add heat to the shower cap with a dryer.
  3. Rinse hair completely with cool water. Make sure all the mixture is out. Then begin to shampoo the hair once or twice to remove excess oil.
