XtheTxt is a community awareness campaign to encourage drivers not to text while behind the wheel. KXAN is handing out colored thumb bands, with the XtheTxt message. The bands are designed to remind people, not to text while driving.

Texting while driving is the most dangerous form of distracted driving. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says drivers who text, are six times more likely to cause an accident than intoxicated drivers. This scary statistic is perhaps because when texting, the driver’s steering capability goes down 91%.

Visit www.kxan.com to find out how you can join the campaign and to find the nearest location where the bands are available. XtheTxt and help save someone’s life… maybe even your own.
