AUSTIN (KXAN) - There is a summertime stomach bug going around especially north of Austin. In Round Rock Dr. Clarence Williams at Scott and White Urgent Care at Hester's Crossing reports an uptick in gastroenteritis. He says it may be caused by a stomach virus or by a person eating contaminated food, especially in the warmer weather. Doctors also are seeing more rashes from things like poison ivy and poison oak and bug bites.
Dr. Johnathan Conner, Chief of Emergency Medicine at St. David's Georgetown Hospital, also is seeing a gastrointestinal bug. He says patients are coming in with vomiting, diarrhea and cramping that last about three to four days. Physicians there are also treating a lot of heat-related illnesses and sunburns.
Now to southwest Austin where Dr. Nick Wagner at Southwest Pediatrics says he is seeing a lot of children with walking pneumonia and viral throat infections.
