Austin (KXAN) - Garrett Weber-Gale made his name in the swimming pool.  The former Longhorn earned two Olympic gold medals for swimming in Beijing.

Weber-Gale still trains in Austin.  But now, he's taken up a second career - in the kitchen.

He's started a new Austin business aimed at helping you eat healthy.  Athletic Foodie features recipes that combine good taste and healthy food.

Weber-Gale appeared on KXAN News at Noon to share a healthy smoothie recipe.

Garrett's Smoothie
1 banana (rich in potassium)
1 cup frozen mango (25 percent of daily Vitamin A)
1 cup frozen peaches (200 percent of daily Vitamin C)
1 cup frozen cherries (25 percent of your daily Vitamin A and 10 percent of daily iron)
2 Tbsp. milled flax seed (high in dietary fiber, omega-3s and folate)
11/2 cups orange juice (high in Vitamin C)

Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor.  Blend until smooth.  For a more liquid consistency, you can add more orange juice or even some milk.

Weber-Gale added a half cup of spinach to the recipe, and blended it in to boost the nutrient content of the smoothie.

You can learn more about Garrett Weber-Gale and Athletic Foodie on January 30th.  That's when he hosts a cooking demonstration at the Whole Foods Lamar Culinary Center. The cost is $50-dollars.
