AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin's Brackenridge Hospital hopes to remove some of the mystery around hospital procedures with their 19th annual "Mock Surgery Tour."

The hands-on event is "kid-friendly" but folks of all ages enjoyed the chance to test out equipment and get an up close view of procedures like Open Heart Surgery.

Nurses who ran the displays say "Hands On" is the best way to teach.

"Well for some of us, our job, it's easier to show than it is to explain...our job is very hands on so kids can come in...they can touch the dummies, and talk to people that actually have the jobs they may want to do in the future," said Celeste Barron .

This interactive event has been held at Seton Medical Center for the past 18 years, this is the first time the Clinical Education Center at Brackenridge has hosted.
