AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas Child Study Embedded Behavioral Clinic at Dell Children's Medical Center allows kids to receive more than just cancer treatment but also emotional support.
The unique clinic was made possible through a collaboration between the University of Texas and the medical center.
Dr. Puja Patel, a psychologist from the clinic, shared why behavioral health can be just as important as radiation, medication and chemotherapy is for cancer patients, especially in children.
According to Dr. Patel, childhood cancer is a huge adjustment, not just physically but also emotionally.
At a young age, they begin to face sadness, anger and anxiety.
Embedding the clinic along with treatment at the hospital gives patients and their families help through the entire process.
And once patients have overcome cancer, the clinic can help everyone get back on track with life after cancer.
