AUSTIN (KXAN) - At St. David's Medical Center Emergency Department in Central Austin, Dr. Corey Jones has treated a growing number of patients with symptoms that sound like and feel like the flu.
"We're seeing a lot of viral syndromes," said Dr. Corey Jones. "We're seeing a lot of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throats, body aches and low grade fevers."
Jones says fl or not, the viral illnesses all get passed around faster now that students are back in school in close quarters.
"They show up with it first and then several days or a couple weeks later it has been spread to the parents who then take it to work, and then we start seeing the adults with it as well," said Jones.
Dr. Jones says the uptick in viral illnesses getting passed around by students at school is a good reminder to everyone get a flu shot. The new flu vaccines are available right now in Central Texas.
What's going around in other doctors' offices
In San Marcos, Dr. A. Lane Lee reports treating viral upper respiratory infections, stomach flu and allergies at his office at San Marcos Family Medicine.
Dr. Brian Aldred at Seton Medical Center Williamson has seen several cardiac patients this week and reminds everyone to get to the E-R as soon as any significant chest pain or shortness of breath occurs.
