(CNN) - U.S. Senators said they want to see some action on improving drinking water in your child's school.
The Environmental Protection Agency announced a plan Tuesday to target repeat violators of water quality standards and to help small systems meet federal standards.
However, Senator Barbara Boxer told them that was not enough.
"The vast majority of this committee expects you to take action to protect our kids and our families, and anything less than that we'll consider a stall," said Boxer. "So we expect action, not just plans, not just good answers and ideas, but specific action, because these bad actors need to be called to account."
Sen. Boxer told the EPA representatives that kids were being exposed to deadly containments and said she did not think the agency was ready to act on the problem.
The Committee hearing comes on the heels of an Associated Press report that found thousands of schools had water systems with high levels of lead and other pollutants.
