AUSTIN (KXAN) - Willie Nelson is in Downtown Austin right now -- and will be there permanently.
Austin's most famous singer was in town Friday afternoon when the city unveiled the new bronze-headed statue for the red-headed stranger.
The 8-foot-tall statue now sits in front of the ACL Live at the Moody Theatre on Second Street after its unveiling, surrounded by hundreds of his fans. It's located on the street that already bears his name.
The sculptor, Clete Shields of Philadelphia, wanted to show Nelson in a relaxed state, holding his guitar by his side.
The country musician has won 10 Grammys and sold more than 40 million records.
The unveiling falls on 4-20 -- a national day of protest for the legalization of marijuana. City officials said it was just a coincidence.
