AUSTIN (KXAN) - In the face of negative imagery and daunting statistics for Hispanic women, Texan Laura Contreras-Rowe took it upon herself to inspire Latinas in overcoming adversity.

In "Aim High: Extraordinary Stories of Hispanic and Latina Women ," Contreras-Rowe profiles 33 successful Latinas that have acheived their dreams.

The women featured come from all over the country and represent different professional backgrounds. Each role model demonstrates the ability to thrive despite setbacks.

Local woman Evelina Solis has her own section in the book and shows that even at a young age, success is possible. Solis suffers from lupus but maintains an accomplished career.

Through stories like that of Solis, "Aim High" seeks to leave young Latinas with the message that with courage and perseverance, a Hispanic woman can reach astounding heights.
