KXAN statement on signal outage

Transmitter problems cut signal to thousands

AUSTIN (KXAN) - KXAN lost its signal shortly after 10PM last night due to an electrical failure at our transmitter.

After an extensive evaluation, it was determined that our best course of action was to terminate power to the transmitter site so that we could perform further diagnoses and avoid injury.

The KXAN engineering staff corrected the problem and restored the transmitter and signal at approximately 3AM. We do not expect any more technical difficulties that would result in KXAN’s signal being lost.

DirecTV, DISH, Suddenlink and Northland Cable receive our over the air signal and as a result lost our signal. Time Warner Cable, AT&T Uverse and Grande Communication receive our signal through a fiber line connection and would not be affected when our over the air signal was lost.

Per NBC, last night's Olympic coverage will not be rebroadcast, but video footage, replays and highlights can be seen at NBC Olympics Online. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused our viewers.
