AUSTIN (KXAN) - A new documentary explores the start of South By Southwest 25 years ago on March 14, 1987. Four guys from Austin started the festival in order to stay employed.
There is lots of archival footage in the film, showing when the crowd numbered in the hundreds, not the hundreds of thousands as it does now.
SXSW has turned into one of the most influential festivals in the country.
The movie “Outside Industry: The story of South By Southwest” screened on Saturday, March 19 at the Vimeo Theater.
